Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be orange?
No! Each tan is custom-mixed to match your skin tone, type, and undertones. With thousands of different color combinations, we can create a golden-brown glow without the brassiness.
What should I expect?
Your artist will begin your appointment with a quick consultation to determine the best course of action for your skin and preferences. The solution is applied with an airbrush spray gun, and you artist will direct you through various poses for even, all over converage. Once the solution is applied, your artist will blend, dry, and apply a finishing powder to eliminate the sticky, smelly, spray tan feel.
How can I prepare for my tan?
The outcome of your spray tan is 50% you which is why prep is the most important part of a spray tan!
Moisturize: Keep skin moisturized for at least 2 days before your appointment to ensure a seamless application.
Exfoliate: Thoroughly exfoliate your skin starting 3 days before your appointment to remove any dead skin or leftover tan. This step is crucial for long-lasting color. Also, avoid any bar soaps or cream-based body washes as they can leave a residue on your skin.
Plan Ahead: Please book all other appointments (Pedicures, lashes, etc.) before your tan to avoid needing a touch-up. Also, we suggest booking your tan 2-3 days before any events for the best glow on the day of.
Shave: Always shave, wax, and exfoliate the day before your appointment, rather than the day of. We also recommend not showering within 12 hours of your appointment to ensure your skin is in it’s best condition.
Come As You Are: Please do not apply any lotions, perfume, deodorant, or makeup before your appointment. We do provide makeup and body wipes just in case! Also, keep in mind that any jewelry left on during your appointment can leave a tan line and may be at risk of getting stained.
The Dress Code: You may wear as little or as much as you want during your spray, but I suggest bringing dark, loose-fitting clothing to wear after your appointment. Stay away from bras, leggings, jeans, tight shoes, etc. as they can create lines and smudges in your tan. An example of a perfect post-tan outfit is an oversized dark t-shirt or hoodie with no bra, loose dark sweatpants, and sandals with no socks.
This is my first tan, I’m nervous!
We all know this feeling! Being mostly naked in front of a stranger can be scary, but we guarantee we will do everything possible to make this a safe and comfortable experience from beginning to end. We are always happy to take a few extra minutes to answer any questions during your appointment. Aged skin, plus sizes, body hair, stretch marks, and everything in between are welcome at Bronze Street; because every-body deserves to be bronzed.
What do I wear?
You may wear as little or as much as you would like! You may wear your own undergarments, the disposable ones provided for you, or nothing. We do suggest sticking to dark colors to avoid any staining.
I just left my appointment, now what?
Good aftercare is crucial to a beautiful, long-lasting tan.
Stay Dry: Avoid all moisture until your first rinse as any wetness will remove your tan. This includes rain, sweat, water, etc.
Keep Your Distance: Avoid any skin to skin contact, weather its with someone else or yourself. We always suggest long sleeve pants and shirts while your tan is processing.
Follow Directions: Your artist will provide you with guidelines for when and how to rinse your tan. It’s important to rinse when advised because over processing can create that undesirable orange undertone. LEaving your tan on for extra time will not make it darker.
Rinse: When you rinse your tan, use warm water only and gently wipe away the bronzer with your hands until the water run clear. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.
Keep it Clean: Avoid any harsh soaps or exfoliants and make sure you are patting dry after each shower!
Hydrate: Applying a tan safe lotion can help to keep skin moisturized and keep your tan glowing for longer.
I smudged my tan, what do I do?
No worries! Each oops is different so reach out to your artist with pictures and the situation and they will advise the best way to resolve the issue.
Why am I not as dark after rinsing?
It may look like you are rinsing off all of your color during your first rinse but don’t panic, that’s just a cosmetic bronzer! It can take your tan up to 24 hours to develop to its final color.
How can I preserve my tan?
The key to getting the most out of your tan is by keeping your skin hydrated. I suggest only using tan-safe soaps and lotions and lowering the temperature during showers. Don’t worry, you can still enjoy your beach vacation or a day at the pool, just note that chlorine, sand, and sunscreen can speed up the exfoliation process!
Your artist can also make recommendations during your appointment.
Can I swim after a spray tan?
Yes, you can swim with a spray tan! However, chlorine and salt water can absolutely dry out your skin and cause your tan to appear patchy overtime.
The best way to avoid this is to moisturize thoroughly before and after swimming, and rinse off chlorine/saltwater residue immediately after exiting the water.
